A vet has “urged extreme caution” to pet owners after two dogs suddenly died after being on a beach.

Kingsferry Veterinary Surgery, in Queenborough, issued the warning after being informed that two animals passed away after being walked on The Leas in Minster.

A spokesperson said: “We have had a very sad report on Tuesday evening of two dogs passing away suddenly after being on the beach at the Leas in Minster.

“We have no information as to why this has happened at this point, so we urge extreme caution if taking your dogs there.”

The mother of the dogs’ owner shared on social media that the vet believes the animals ingested something they shouldn’t have.

They said: “The dogs head towards Cliffs Circle, down to the beach, then back up near the pub.

“They were both sick several times then fell asleep and died. This has been a massive shock to us.”

A spokesman for Swale council confirmed the authority was aware of the vet’s warning.

He said: “We are in the process of speaking with them to receive further information, so we can fully and thoroughly investigate the matter.”

The RSPCA and the police have also been contacted for comment.

This isn’t the first time a dog has died after being on the beach in Minster.

In August last year, a pet fell ill after it had been walked on the promenade near Minster Leas.

It was later confirmed that the dog died after drinking from a water bowl feared to have been spiked with antifreeze.

As a result, the nearby Beach Bar and Restaurant and the Little Oyster Tea Room removed their public dog bowls.
