There was some fine egg-chasing skills on show from primary pupils before rain kicked a competition into touch.

A record turnout of 150 children from Island schools, plus Iwade and Bobbing, took part in a tag rugby tournament at Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey in Minster Road, Minster, on Thursday.

Unfortunately, torrential downpours meant some of the matches had to be called off.

Head of PE at the academy, Nathan Spocchia, said: “It was the best-attended event we have had since we created the Primary Academy Link (PAL).

“The talent on display at the beginning was absolutely brilliant.

“The kids were putting in a great effort so in that respect it went well.”

The PAL involves every school on the Island and was set up as a way of improving physical education provision and extra-curricular activities.

Tournaments of different sports are held each term. Next up will be cross country.

It is hoped the remaining tag rugby matches can be rearranged at a later date to decide an overall winner.
