Oli Edwards heads into his second pro fight with the advice of champions ringing in his ears.
The Sheppey pro has been receiving encouragement from former two-weight world champion Joe Calzaghe and retired European middleweight champ Darren Barker.
Edwards, 20, is keen to listen and will be taking all of their advice as he prepares to meet Harjinder Gill at Medway Park on Saturday night.
“Joe told me to train as a contender and not as a champion and that’s what I’ve been doing,” said the Sheerness middleweight.
“If you train as a champion you can take things easy, but as a contender you put you heart and soul into the game and that’s what I’ll do.
“I got told not to take anything to heart and to leave the managing to the managers as boxing is a business.
“Joe won all 46 of his fights and you don’t turn down advice from someone like him."
Fellow Island pro, heavyweight Dave Jones, is also in action at Medway Park. The unbeaten Queenborough fighter takes on Lithuanian Igoris Borucha.
