Casey Belsey won the bronze medal in the under-60kg at the Agglorex International Judo Tournament in Lommel, Belgium on Saturday.
Belsey, from Sheppey, was fighting in the mens event and won four out of his five fights by Ippon (knock out throw) at the Agglorex Lommel.
The 17-year-old, who trains at Dartford Judo Club, just missed out on a place in the final after losing by three points in his fifth fight.
Belsey has recently gone up a weight division and has only just started competing against senior men.
He has been asked to attend the USA Olympic trials in July and will compete in the USA Open in Fort Lauderdale.
