Toby Simmance followed family tradition by winning the Sheerness Golf Club 2015 Championship title at the weekend.

His father, Jeremy, who caddied over the two days, is an eight-time winner of the championship himself.

The tournament is the most prestigious club event on the Sheerness calendar but this year the weather, which played havoc over the two days, had to be tamed as well as the course.

Blustery conditions made life tough for the low handicappers on the Saturday, while heavy rain tested the resolve of those still in the hunt on Sunday.

Several players were in contention for the top prize but coming through victorious was Simmance, who carded a gross 74, making him the outright winner by three shots over opening-round leader Jeremy Friday.

Mr Tindall said: “Toby knew he was up against some fierce competition and to come from three shots behind after Saturday’s round to win three shots up shows the mark of a champion.

“Along with the rest of the club members, I am delighted that Toby lifted the trophy. He’s a popular lad who deserved the win.”

The ladies also held their 36-hole championship, which was won by Denise Etchells with a gross score of 182.
