Minster will be looking for consistent performances as they seek to work their way back into title contention against leaders Bexley this Saturday.

It’s been a hit-and-miss Kent League Premier Division campaign so far but Minster were ruthless last weekend against Sandwich Town.

Winning the toss was important as Minster had the better of the conditions, making it count with a nine-wicket win at The Butts.

Captain Ed Moore got the wicket of Kent’s Jordan Cox (40) and then hit a quickfire 83 in their successful chase.

Moore was happy to see his side back to their best.

“It ended up being the right call to bowl first,” said Moore. “Early morning it was a little bit tougher for them, we managed to bowl really well on a tricky wicket and managed to restrict them nicely.

“They gave us some soft wickets which helped but we still did alright to keep them down to a low-ish total and conditions got better for us to bat on later on. I am not going to just put it down to the toss, we played better cricket, but we did have the best of the conditions if I am being honest.

“It was nice to hit a few in the middle (Moore’s 83 came off 42 balls) and get off to a good start, break the back of the chase. Some days we can win convincingly and some days we struggle, hopefully we can get a few consistent performances in the next few weeks.

“It looks like we’ll have a strong team for this weekend again, availability has been a challenge for us this season, not that I am using that as an excuse. We have to find a way to get over the line, but consistency is what wins you trophies. I don’t think we can lose too many more if we want to win the league.”

Daniel Masters picked up the top three on Saturday but it was Moore who removed Cox, caught on the boundary by James Thompson.

“We bowled really well and put them under some serious pressure,” said Moore. “They had some decent players like Jordan Cox and a few others, they had a strong team and it was nice to beat them in their backyard.

“They tried to take me on and got caught on the boundary, as did a few others, it played into our hands and we managed to get a few important wickets.

“Daniel Masters has been a consistent performer for us, he picks up top three, four wickets for us normally, which is massive. It looks the same on the scoreboard, a wicket is a wicket, but the top six is very different to the lower order, credit has to go to him.”
