Chelsea are the latest side to have been alerted to New Road FC youngster Kenzie Monahan.

The under-8 striker hit 154 goals in 25 games last season and has once again passed the 100-goal mark during this campaign.

Six goals against Chelsea made the London side’s academy scouts sit up and take notice and at the weekend he scored goals against Liverpool and Aston Villa’s junior sides.

Father Shaun once played up front for Swale United and Sheppey, but admits he was nowhere near his son’s level.

He said: “I don’t know where he’s got it from – certainly not me! I played Kent League briefly and once hit 40 in a season but that was while playing in the Sunday League. I’ve not seen many better at his age.”

Kenzie, from Queenborough, plays for New Road as well as the Soccer Elite Academy and was with the academy at the weekend as he scored against Liverpool and Villa. He is currently in talks with Gillingham’s academy coaches.

“He’s an unbelievable talent but I’m his worst critic,” admits his dad, who now coaches at New Road.

“When he first started playing he just did what he wanted and we couldn’t tell him any different. He’s slowly learning to listen.”
