Race ace Byrne chases record

KENT'S British Superbike champion Shane Byrne has his eyes on being a record breaker as he sets his sights on another double win at Brands Hatch this weekend.
Byrne, from Minster, near Sheerness, needs four more race wins to surpass the record set by Neil McKenzie in 1997 and needs double success on his home track to set up an exciting finale at Donington Park on September 28.
Shakey took the title at Cadwell Park a fortnight ago and can expect a huge ovation in front of his adoring fans.
Speaking exclusively Sheerness Times Guardian, the champ said he couldn't wait to get back to business.
He said: "I'm always looking forward to racing. The problem is we only have two races left, which is a bit of a shame.
"But I've set myself the target of winning the most races ever in a season and that gives me an extra incentive.
"I love winning races, that's what gives me the kick, and the record will keep me pushing hard in the final two meetings."
And Byrne will go into the race full of confidence. The Island rider won both races at the British round of the World Superbikes Championship at Brands as a wild card in July, but this race will be around the shorter Indy Circuit.
Byrne already has his eyes on the future and is hoping to make the step into SBK full time next season.
He added: "The World Superbikes is where I want to be, 100 per cent, and I'm hoping to have something sorted out in the next month or maybe sooner. My team (MonsterMob Ducati) are making an effort to get there so I'm hoping something sorted out soon because there will be a lot of work to do before next season.
"I think Neil Hodgson is going to Moto GP so it will be out Brit in and one out but we'll have to see."
* The British Superbike races take place at Brands on Sunday with qualifying taking place on Saturday.
