£20,000 stolen from Woolworth's store
00:00, 06 February 2004
THIEVES have stolen a safe containing more than £20,000 at the Woolworth's store in Sittingbourne High Street, it has been revealed.
It happened sometime between 6.10pm on Saturday and 9.30am on Sunday. A police spokesman said: "Shelving around the safe was dismantled in order to steal the safe.
We are carrying out a full investigation into this incident and would appeal for any witnesses to come forward."
Neither store staff or head office spokesmen were prepared to comment. A notice on the door on Sunday morning said the store was unable to trade "due to unforeseen circumstances". It opened again at 1pm.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 01795 477055 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
