3 held over graveyard vandalism
14:39, 22 February 2007
POLICE arrested three men in the early hours of this morning after graves and a war memorial were damaged at a graveyard.
Officers received a call at about 12.55am from a member of the public stating that people were causing damage at the graveyard on Green Porch Close in the Milton Regis area of Sittingbourne.
A 22-year-old man and two 19-year-old men, all believed to be from Sittingbourne, were arrested.
Ch Insp Mark Chamber said: “We take all reports of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour very seriously.
"However, maliciously damaging a grave or memorial, whilst rare, is particularly disrespectful and shows a complete disregard for the local community.
"Anyone caught committing this kind of crime in the future will be dealt with accordingly and I would encourage people to continue to report people to us who commit these kinds of mindless acts."
The three men were being questioned by police at Sittingbourne Police Station.
