A well-used slip road is set to be reopened today.
National Highways has announced that it will be opening the A249 Sheppey-bound exit at the Key Street roundabout after temporary traffic lights are removed from the A2 later on.
The closure was put in place when the road agency closed the northern section of the Stockbury roundabout, between the Sheppey-bound exit and Maidstone-bound entry, earlier this month.
That route is set to remain shut until the end of November.
The entrance onto Key Street from the A249 Sheppey-bound was also closed, to help keep traffic on the formal diversion route and avoid clashing with other traffic management setups on the A2.
Drivers wishing to access the road needed to use Sheppey Way via the Bobbing roundabout.
However, now that Southern Water is removing temporary traffic lights from the nearby A2 after repairs and maintenance works, National Highways has made the decision to reopen the Key Street roundabout slip.
A spokesman said: “We’ll continue to monitor traffic at this junction, and the wider area. If we believe there is an impact on the local community or drivers, we may close the slip road again.
“We’d like to remind everyone that the official diversion for the closure of the northern section of the Stockbury roundabout is to the Bobbing roundabout and back on the southbound A249. Key Street roundabout should only be used for local onward travel.”
