An award-winning Turkish restaurant wants to build a glass extension on its forecourt to seat more diners.

The owners of Galata Mezze and Bar in Station Street, Sittingbourne, have applied to Swale council for permission to remove an existing canopy and replace it with a conservatory to house more tables.

Mark Knight, an environmental health officer, says in a report: "Whilst there have been historic noise-related complaints for this property, none have required any formal or informal action by Swale council's environment protection team."

He added: "The esplanade going from an open area to enclosed should help reduce any possible noise from the premises."

The restaurant was opened in October 2019 by Sheppey businessman Muslum Tasdogan – known as Muzo.
