Here’s some news that will ruffle your feathers...
A large black flightless bird has been on the loose along a quiet country lane.
The animal which stands at approximately 4ft was spotted taking a leisurely stroll along Raspberry Hill Lane, Iwade, at at about 11.40am this morning.
It was rounded up by police and was put safely in a field just before midday.
Kelly Davey came across the strange sight while driving her Volkswagen Polo towards the village.
The bird, which is believed to be a Rhea, was heading in the other direction towards Lower Halstow.
The mum of two, who lives in Cormorant Road, said: “It was on the other side of the road but there was a van on that side too which meant it was edging towards me.
“I wound my window up. It did come up and peer through. Its head was at the top of my window. I just thought ‘if I don’t look at it, it wont look at me’ " - Kelly Davey
“I wound my window up. It did come up and peer through. Its head was at the top of my window. I just thought ‘if I don’t look at it, it won't look at me.’
“I was little bit surprised. They’re scary looking. They’ve got big eyes.
“I wasn’t able to take a photo as my phone was in the boot.
“At the end of Raspberry Hill Lane I pulled in where there is a house to see where it had come from but I didn’t get any response.”
A lady driving a convertible in the same direction as the two-legged creature called the police about the sighting.
Miss Davey, 43, added: “We stopped level with each other and she said she had nearly hit it and called it in.
“I’ve no idea where it has come from.”
