A brawl at a town centre pub during England’s football match last night is being investigated.
The fight took place in The Vineyard in West Street, Sittingbourne, during England’s semi-final clash with the Netherlands on Wednesday, July 10.
A witness told KentOnline that after a pint was thrown “all hell broke loose” with people “literally jumping down” from an elevated part of the pub to join in.
A Vineyard spokesperson said that the pub is “committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment” and that it is cooperating with the police.
The witness said the brawl, which involved around four or five people, started after Ollie Watkins had put the Three Lions 2-1 up.
He added: “The fight went on for maybe 10 seconds with lots of punches being thrown but the bouncers reacted really quickly and managed to break it up.
“It did kill a bit of the atmosphere in the pub, which was really rocking after the goal.
“But most of the people watching the game were well-behaved and have been throughout the tournament so it is a shame that a few people could tarnish what was a great night.
“Most of the people entered the street after the game and there was a large police presence with four police cars outside the pub.”
The police were called at 9.56pm.
A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to reports of a disturbance. Officers attended and one person was reported to have been assaulted.
“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the person responsible.”
The Vineyard said: “We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment to all of our guests.
“Unfortunately, there was an incident after the England game on Wednesday which was dealt with immediately.
“We are fully cooperating with police with enquiries and have provided the required CCTV coverage.”
