Tributes paid to Sittingbourne grandad 'gone too soon' after dying from Covid-19
06:00, 09 January 2021
A family are trying to raise money to buy a plaque for a “much loved” grandad who died contracting Covid-19.
Colin Attrell, of Chappel Way, Milton Regis, was also a loving son, brother, husband and father when he died last month after catching coronavirus.
The 65-year-old, who was born in Tunbridge Wells, had underlying health conditions when he caught the virus having had a triple heart bypass to save his life at the age of 43.
His daughter Claire Attrell explained her father “always wanted to help his family and had a very cheeky smile” so it was their chance to do something for him after he passed away at Darent Valley Hospital, in Dartford, on December 30.
She said: “He was taken too soon from this world and will never be forgotten.
“All donations will be used to help us get a plaque in his memory as he deserved to be remembered for not only his generosity but also his quirks. He loved horses and was an avid traveller.
“Any remaining funds will be donated to the British Heart Foundation, a charity which he was fond of after they helped him when he had a heart attack.”
Colin leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Pam Attrell, and three children, Lee, Mark, and Claire.
He worked for Swale Council as well as in the Bowaters and Kemsley papermills and lived in Teynham and Faversham before moving to the town in 1986.
Daughter Claire explained her father had a yellow Ford Capri 1972 which he took to car shows over the years.
She added: “He did the bike ride with a very good family friend in 2015 for the British Heart Foundation. He had an extra 22 years with his lovely family and friends thanks to them.”
The family have raised £265 so far for the plaque which will be displayed at Milton working man’s club, more here.
