PURSES were stolen from two pensioners within an hour of each other as they shopped in the same place.
The first incident at Sittingbourne’s Forum shopping centre happened between 11am and 11.50am on Tuesday when a purse containing £65 was stolen from the handbag of a 70-year-old woman.
The second was between noon and 12.30pm when a purse containing £20 was stolen from a 61-year-old woman.
PC Jim Howe said: "I would advise people to remain security conscious when out shopping. If you keep your purse in a handbag, ensure it is zipped up as this makes it harder for a thief to dip their hand in.
"Always keep your cheque book separate from your cheque card. Avoid carrying your bag across your back and try to keep it in front of you. Remain vigilant and try to be aware of who is around you."
