A drink and drug-crazed thug went berserk in a hotel, holding a fork to the throat of an employee while trying to take him “hostage”.

After police were called Enrico Tenaglia thrust the fork into an officer’s chest but she was saved from injury by her stab proof vest.

The married 31-year-old father flew into a rage at The Coniston Hotel in Sittingbourne, where he had spent the night with another woman on July 2 this year.

The trouble started because Tenaglia became angry with the woman at the London Road hotel and she fled to the restaurant for protection, Maidstone Crown Court was told.

Other alarmed guests were having breakfast when Tenaglia grabbed hold of staff member Carl Wall and put the fork to his throat.

After threatening to take him hostage, he attacked PC Anita Chidwick with the fork. She later told how she had “never seen so much rage in someone’s face”.

Tenaglia turned his attention to PC Colin Page, throwing a pot of hot tea at him and burning his ear.

PC Kirsty Baker was also assaulted and when Tenaglia was finally arrested he spat in the face of custody officer PC Martin Stratford.

Tenaglia, of Cranmore Road, Bromley, admitted affray, four offences of assault by beating and damaging cups and saucers in the Holiday Inn hotel.

Mr Wall said in a victim statement he would be more wary of drunken customers in future because there was no security.

PC Chidwick said it as the first time in her 11-year career she had feared for her safety and if it had not been for her stab vest it could have been far worse.

Tenaglia’s lawyer Archangelo Power called it “repugnant behaviour” after taking a lethal cocktail of alcohol and cocaine. He resorted to alcohol when dealing with anger and problem solving.

Mr Power said notwithstanding Tenaglia was in a hotel room with another woman, he had four children aged 12, 10, seven and two.

While he was in custody his wife almost died while giving birth. She lost six pints of blood and had to be revived.

“This has all caused a great deal of consideration about how he should mend his ways,” said Mr Power. “He has been on anger management courses. His anger escalated.

“All this could have had serious ramifications for the victims.”

Jailing Tenaglia for 20 months, Judge Heather Baucher told him: “You were in a relationship with someone, then decided to get out of your head, not only on drink but also cocaine.

“You were completely out of it and your aggression was so strong. Not content with that, you spat at a police officer in custody. He describes it as being disgusting. Spittle can cause diseases.”
