Emergency bridge works closed a lane on the M2.
The closure was on the London-bound carriageway at Junction 5 for Sheppey, Sittingbourne and Maidstone.
The London-bound entry slip road was also shut.
Highways England said it was due to a failed bridge joint and contractors worked to make the repairs.
At about 2.50pm, a spokesman said: "Just after 11.30am, Highways England traffic officers closed lane one of the M2 westbound carriageway and entry slip round of Junction 5 at Stockbury because of a failed bridge joint.
"Contractors were immediately called to fix the fault.
"The problem is now sorted with lane one of the M2 back open and the slip to reopen follow shortly."
