Drivers have reported hearing an explosion after a truck was spotted alight on the side of a Kent motorway.
A lane of the M2 is closed coastbound between Junction 5 for Sittingbourne and J6 for Faversham after the black pick-up caught alight shortly before 11.20am.
It could be seen parked on the hard shoulder, with flames bursting from the bonnet sending thick black smoke into the air.
Traffic was reportedly backing up in the area, but the lane was reopened and queues had cleared by 12.45pm.
Eyewitness Alex Riley, who was travelling past and managed to get a video of the blaze from the passenger seat, said: “We approached a car on fire on the M2.
"We felt the heat as we passed the car. As we passed something went bang.
"The driver was OK and waiting for a fire engine."
Fire crews could be seen at the scene shortly afterwards, and it appeared the fire had been extinguished.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for more details.
