Family of terminally ill Ollie Cripps organise fun day and quiz night
00:01, 16 August 2018
The family of a terminally-ill boy are organising a fun day and quiz night to help make some memories after being given the most devastating news possible.
Four-year-old Ollie Cripps, was originally diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in June 2017.
In January, it was revealed his older brother Finley was due to donate part of his bone marrow the following month, in a bid to help with his brother’s treatment.
Ollie, who also has two younger twin sisters, Ellie and Evie, underwent months of chemotherapy treatment and various hospital visits.
All three siblings were tested and it was decided they were all a match.
Finley was the doctors’ favourite because of him being the same sex and the oldest of the trio.
But the family has now tragically revealed the youngster cannot be saved, and were told: “to enjoy him whilst they can”.
Mother Fiona Cripps, of Archers Park, Sittingbourne, said: “We are now doing a fun day and quiz night to raise money for us to make memories with our boy as he has relapsed again and there isn’t anything they can do.”
The quiz night is to take place at The Woodstock, Broadoak Road, Sittingbourne, on Sunday, September 23.
Entry will be £5 per person, with a maximum of eight people per team, from 6.30pm and is being held to help make memories and experiences for Ollie, his brother, sisters and parents.
The fun day is planned to be held from noon on Sunday, September 30, at a venue to be confirmed.
Last Christmas, Finley, who was then five years old, launched a fundraising campaign to raise £500 for the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
After setting up a GoFundMe page, he managed to pull in £1,000 before he shaved his head.
The cash was earmarked to pay for children’s toys at the hospital and a coffee machine for nurses.
In January the family said they were overwhelmed by the generosity they had received from everyone.
