Fire spreads to fireworks store
18:14, 19 August 2008
Firefighters were forced to withdraw when a blaze at a car breakers' yard set light to fireworks in a nearby garden shed.
Crews had to take cover when the fire spread from a commercial building containing 200 tyres, in Sheppey Way, Bobbing, and ignited the fireworks.
The warehouse was also believed to contain unidentified cylinders.
Eight pumps attended the blaze after emergency services received calls at around 4.30pm yesterday.
Firefighters were worried the flames would spread to a nearby corn field.
The yard is about half a mile from the Garden of England Crematorium.
Firefighters at the scene said the first 20 minutes from their arrival was intense.
But after all the equipment arrived, the fire was controlled.
They were still there at 7.15 last night.
