With face-to-face visits cancelled because of Covid-19, this year Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is offering virtual open days to its fire stations across Kent.

The first ever online event will take place this Thursday hosted from the station in Sittingbourne, on St Michael's Rd.

Between 11am and 2pm, videos will be uploaded to KFRS's Facebook page, each with a different theme.

At last year's open day, families heard stories from firefighters, watched displays, and learnt safety tips.

The service says the same activities are on offer, only this year visitors don't have to leave home.

The Byrnes' family mascot, Woody, will also make an appearance in the learn-at-home videos.

Ann Millington, CEO of KFRS, said: “We know there’s a lot going on in the world right now, but learning vital fire safety advice is still incredibly important- especially with more people at home during this time cooking, using electricals, and having barbecues.”

“We’re really excited to launch the first ever online fire station open day, so that families can watch along and learn at home. We do hope you’ll save the date and tune in on the day to enjoy the educational videos, shows and interactive activity trail, as created by our firefighters and support staff - it’s going to be great fun for the whole family!”

Those taking part can even join an online activity trail. Once completed, families can enter a competition to win a tour of their local fire station when restrictions are lifted.
