A car fire caused traffic issues on the A249 as emergency services dealt with the blaze.
The fire started at about 12.30pm on the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway at Detling Hill.
Police and firefighters were at the scene.
A police spokesman said: "We were called at 12.38pm to a report of a vehicle on fire in a live lane of the A249 Detling Hill, Sittingbourne-bound."
He said there were no injuries reported but lane closures had to remain in place whilst recovery of the vehicle was underway.
The road fully reopened at 2.50pm.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said two fire engines were sent shortly before 12.40pm.
He added: "Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and foam to put the fire out.
"The cause is not yet known."
Fire crews left at 1.14pm.
Eye witnesses said the smoke from the blaze could be seen from as far away as Cuxton.
The incident is not the only problem on Kent's roads today.
Some motorists are reporting they have been sitting in traffic for more than two hours because of the closures on the M2.
