Firefighters tackle paper mill blaze
00:00, 10 January 2003
DOZENS of firefighters spent four hours tackling a blaze at Kemsley paper mill, near Sittingbourne, last night.
The blaze started at about 9.30pm when a paper-making machine at the mill in Ridham Avenue caught fire.
The mill's sprinkler system was activated but the flames spread to the roof, prompting the in-house fire crew to call in Kent fire brigade.
More than 50 firefighters used aerial equipment and water units to fight the fire which was brought under control and handed over to the mill's own firefighting team at 1.20am. No one was injured in the incident.
