Future looking bleak for Sittingbourne Football Club
08:00, 29 April 2011
Sittingbourne manager Gary Abbott heads into the final league game of the season on Saturday knowing the club’s future is anything but bright.
He was forced to pack his team full of teenagers for Monday’s trip to Faversham and the Brickies slumped to a third straight defeat.
Abbott saw his side’s hopes of a play-off spot in Ryman League Division 1 South diminish when his budget was pulled after Christmas. That situation doesn’t look set to change.
The Sittingbourne boss said: "I spoke with Andy Spice (chairman) on Saturday about next season’s budget and he said that things would be exactly as they are now.
"If that’s the case then we aren’t going to win anything. We’ll know from the off that it will be hard.
"I want to do things professionally and to push the club on. I don’t like to sit and see us struggle.
"I’m a winner and want to challenge for things. Who wants to be at a club with no finances to do anything? I don’t and I suppose Andy doesn’t – we need a sponsor to come in."
Abbott will be hoping his side end the season on a high at home to Godalming this weekend.
