Iwade parish council claims Persimmon Homes is breaching planning conditions while building new houses between School Lane and Sheppey Way

Furious villagers claim little is being done to ensure planning conditions are being met concerning a huge Iwade housing development.

The 400-home scheme run by Persimmon Homes is under construction between School Lane and Sheppey Way.

Iwade parish council chairman, James Hunt, said a number of conditions are not being complied with.

He said these include a section 106 agreement which states a redeveloped playing field, containing a newly-built sports pavilion, should be handed back to the community once the first 100 houses are completed.

He said: “Conditions are set for a reason and were agreed to by the planning committee when the decision was made.

“Although nearly 100 houses have been built, the playing field is still fenced off and out of bounds, which means children during the school holidays are not making use of much-needed green space.

“A planning application hasn’t been submitted, so we might not get the land back until September next year.

“Swale council is not upholding the agreement.”

Mr Hunt also claimed reptile fencing around the development site had not been repaired since it “fell down” in April.

He said this breached a condition to ensure the land was secured to prevent endangered species entering and being harmed.

The parish council outlined a full list of perceived noncompliance issues in a letter to Swale council’s chief executive.

Responding to the concerns, James Freeman, Swale’s head of planning services, said the council’s enforcement team manager and its area planning officer “expressed surprise and disappointment at the tone of the parish council’s complaints”.

He said the developers were “in the process of maintaining the reptile fencing” and had offered to hold an on-site meeting to discuss the issue.

With regard to the playing field matter, he said Persimmon Homes had submitted an application form “for development of the recreation ground, sports pavilion, children’s play area and associated car park.”

“Our information indicates that there are 59 dwellings completed and 80 under construction on the site,” he added.
