UK Power Networks (UKPN) said a fault with an underground cable on the high voltage network caused "an area wide power cut".

Problems were reported throughout Sittingbourne, Kemsley, Bobbing and Teynham.

Internet connections were lost as routers were knocked out during the cut at about 3.50pm.

The traffic lights at Canterbury Road and Swanstree Avenue were blacked out for more than an hour.

Power was fully restored at 6.10pm, UKPN said.
