A nursery forced to close after inspectors raised concerns has received another damning Ofsted report.

Evolution Kids Club and Nursery shut for more than two weeks last October after it was rated ‘inadequate’ in September.

The service, in the grounds of Grove Park School, Hilton Drive, Sittingbourne, but run by a different provider, was assessed on January 9.

A report published last week rated it as ‘inadequate’ in all four categories and overall.

Inspector Sarah Taylor-Smith said: “Children do not receive enough consistent support to learn to behave well.

“Staff’s comments to children are ineffective and do not help children to learn how to behave or express themselves.

“At times, children sort out disagreements amongst themselves, which leads to them hitting and chasing each other.

“Staff do not notice this at first and take ineffective action when they see it.”

She added the provider does not ensure the required number of qualified staff are working directly with children and that has a “significant impact”.

A legal notice was issued ordering it to make improvements to the way it assesses risks, ensures staff are qualified to work with minors and check the way children are told to manage their behaviour.

It was also told to implement a “robust and consistent” safeguarding policy for all staff to follow in relation to the use of mobile phones.

The changes were to be made by the end of January.

An Ofsted spokesman said it would be publishing a monitoring report following assessment of any improvements taken.

The nursery was praised for being caring towards children, building relationships that help them feel settled and said youngsters enjoy the company of staff.

Children who speak English as an additional language receive the right help, everyone enjoys sitting together for snacks and they also understand how to look after themselves with staff support.

A spokesman for the provider said the findings are being contested adding: “The last visit was more positive. We are striving to get a ‘good’ outcome.”
