Kent Kings stepping up plans for new season
09:30, 24 April 2013
New speedway team Kent Kings are preparing to welcome thousands of fans to the first meeting at Central Park.
Kings are building up to their May 6 opening by holding a fans’ forum at the stadium on Monday (doors open at 8pm).
Promoters Roger Cearns (pictured) and Len Silver, manager John Sampford and riders including captain David Mason will answer questions.
Commercial manager Neil Day said: "We’ve had a long run into the season and now it’s time to let the fans meet the team and ask any questions."
Almost 20,000 flyers have been distributed around the county ahead of Kings’ opening fixture against the American Touring Team next month.
The club have been encouraged by interest and are expecting a big crowd.
Day said: "It would be foolish to say what we believe the crowd will be but Weymouth were the last club to open at our level a few years and
they had 3,000 at the first meeting. We’re preparing for something around that figure but the more the merrier."
Kings start the season with a National Trophy tie at Stoke Potters on May 12.
