The M2 will be shut in both directions overnight as roadworks continue.

The full closure will be in place from 8pm this evening to 6am tomorrow, between junctions 5 for Sittingbourne and 6 for Faversham

It will be shut to allow work to strengthen the carriageway to be carried out.

A signed diversion will be in place via the A249 and A2.

The ongoing work by Highways England is expected to be finished at the end of March.

A 50mph speed limit is in place until then and lane two is closed - with traffic instead using the hard shoulder and lane one.

Elsewhere on the M2, between junctions 2 and 3, three out of four lanes will be closed on the coast-bound carriageway for resurfacing works from 8pm to 6am for the next five nights.

Two lanes will also be shut on the London-bound side between junctions 5 and 3 to allow surveys to be carried out.
