A rush-hour crash caused severe delays on the M2.
Firefighters were called after a car struck the barriers, closing the coastbound slip road at junction 5 for Sittingbourne.
Witnesses reported seeing a person being cut from a vehicle.
Police confirmed they were called to the scene at around 4.25pm.
At one stage traffic was backing up to junction 3 for Chatham, with delays of up to 30 minutes.
It also led to queues on the A249 heading towards the Stockbury Roundabout from the Sittingbourne and Maidstone side.
Traffic also built up on the A2 in Rainham and Newington, as motorists tried to avoid getting stuck on the M2.
Highways officials confirmed repairs were carried on the damaged barriers and the road reopened at around 6.20pm.
