A man has appeared in court in connection with robbing a man in Sittingbourne.

Akeem Kolawole, of South Oak Road, Streatham, was arrested in August after police stopped a vehicle on the A249, near Stockbury roundabout.

The arrest resulted in queues for drivers as officers stopped traffic after tracking him down.

Police were originally called to reports a man had been robbed in Chalkwell Road, Sittingbourne, at 10.52am on Wednesday, August 29.

Kolawole was charged with one count of robbery and one count of fraud by false representation.

He appeared at Maidstone Magistrates' Court on Thursday, August 30.

He then appeared in Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday, February 5, where he entered a guilty plea.

The 23-year-old was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for two years, for robbery and six months for fraud, to run at the same time.

Kolawole must also do 120 hours of unpaid work and rehabilitation within a year and pay a £140 victim surcharge.

Three others who were in the vehicle, an 18-year-old woman from Kennington, London, an 18-year-old man from Streatham and a 20-year-old woman from Bermondsey, were also arrested and released under investigation.
