A MAN suffered serious head injuries and a broken leg while he was doing DIY at his home.

The 64-year-old man was painting woodwork at the back of his luxury detached home in Key Street, Sittingbourne, when he fell to the ground after the scaffolding tower he was on collapsed under him.

Kent Air Ambulance landed on nearby Gore Court cricket ground and took him to Maidstone Hospital in five minutes.

A land ambulance crew from Sittingbourne was also at the scene very quickly because they were near Key Street at the time as they were returning to their base at noon.

A paramedic there said: "He was entangled in all the collapsed scaffolding which had landed on a car and was in real bad way."
