A woman who was born on the same day astronaut Neil Armstrong first touched down on the moon is celebrating a milestone birthday.

Mum-of-two Claudia Warner was born 50 years ago today at All Saints Hospital in Chatham, which is no longer there.

It was a huge day for Claudia's mum Maria Eastwood who welcomed her first baby into the world.

But it was also a monumental day across the globe as millions watched Neil Armstrong take his first steps on the moon, telling the world: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Buzz Aldrin later joined him and became the second man to step foot on the lunar surface.

Mrs Eastwood recalls doctors at the hospital being engrossed in what was happening 238,900 miles away.

The 73-year-old, who has now moved to Sittingbourne from Chatham, said: "Claudia was actually born at the same time he put his foot down on the moon.

"I didn't know at the time because I was having my baby.

"After, when I was lying there waiting to be seen by the doctors, I was told I had to wait because they were all watching it on the TV.

"They all said I should call her Lunar, but I knew she was going to be a Claudia.

"I'd had the name picked out for a while."

Because of the timing of Claudia's birth, newspapers tried to contact the family at the time.

But having just given birth, Mrs Eastwood, wasn't interested in anything but her lovely newborn.

A decade later however - on Claudia's 10th birthday and the 10th anniversary of the moon landings - the tale featured in the Evening Post.

The paper gave Claudia the nickname Moon Girl, which stuck when she was younger.

Speaking today on her 50th birthday, Mrs Warner, also from Sittingbourne, said: "It's a joke now in the family, they always mention the moon to me. We have a laugh about it.

"But it is nice, when you see it come up on the news it is like having a connection to it.

"It is amazing what they achieved that day.

"I work at a school and I told the children about it and they were very interested."

Mrs Eastwood, who married Ray Eastwood following the death of her first husband and her children's father Michael Parkes, said her second daughter Simone was then born on St Patrick's Day.

The family celebrated Mrs Warner's birthday with a drink last night.
