M2 London-bound traffic between Faversham and Sittingbourne caused by two crashes

Five-mile queues on the M2 were caused by two separate accidents this morning.

The motorway has now reopened after it was partially blocked on the London-bound carriageway from Junction 6 for Faversham and Junction 5 for the A249 and the Stockbury roundabout near Sittingbourne.

At 8.18am police were called to a report of a three-vehicle collision and a separate two-vehicle collision on the motorway stretch.

A spokesman for the force said: “Officers attended alongside South East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, and the Highways Agency.

“A woman involved in the three-vehicle collision was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries. Officers remain on the scene pending recovery of the vehicles involved.”

As a result of the crashes, there were severe delays in the area.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Crews were was called at 8.30am to assist Kent Police following reports of a crash on the M2.

“Two fire engines attended, and crews helped to make the scene safe.”

This morning motorists were also struggling with traffic on another part of the A249.

There was congestion to Bobbing on the Maidstone-bound side as a result of the Sheppey-bound entry and exit slip closure at the Grovehurst Junction, which is under way while improvements are carried out.
