Police probe churchyard sex attack

00:00, 12 October 2001

POLICE are looking for a young cyclist who they believe is responsible for two indecent assaults on women. Both have occurred in the Sittingbourne area, the latest in a churchyard at Milton Regis.

A woman from Kemsley was in the churchyard at Holy Trinity Church at Green Porch Close at about 3.45pm last Thursday when she was assaulted by the teenage boy. Police think the incident may be connected to a sex assault on a girl of 17 that took place in an alleyway between Charlotte Street and Burnham Close, Sittingbourne, on September 29.

On both occasions the offender approached the victims while riding a mountain bike and both incidents happened at about the same time of day - between 3pm and 4pm. Both women were not injured but badly shocked by the experience.

In the most recent assault, the offender is described as aged about 14 or 15, white with ginger hair, and was wearing black trainers and blue track suit bottoms with a purple or pink paint mark on the right thigh. He was also wearing a long sleeved top.

One of the victims described the bicycle as being black with red or purple forks at the front. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Alison Paddon at Swale police on 01795 584172.
