00:01, 15 September 2017

A primary school pupil has been headhunted by a magazine after impressing bosses with his video making skills.

Harry Hutchinson, of Kemsley, started his online video career five months ago, for a school project.

He interviewed real-life superheroes such as nurses and paramedics, writing his own questions for them.

The St Peter’s Catholic Primary School pupil then uploaded his videos to social network YouTube.

Educational Life, a Thanet-based educational magazine, has now asked the eight-year-old to become a vlogger for them.

His dad, Michael Hutchinson, said: “We sent them the video, and they now want him to be a reporter for them.

“He’s really chuffed and excited about it – he’s absolutely made up.”

Harry’s favourite YouTuber is DanTDM, who he religiously watches to learn tricks, ideas and tips on editing and timing.

He hopes to go into vlogging as a career when he’s older.

“From a practical point of view, it’s teaching him video editing, how to talk to people and how to listen too,” Mr Hutchinson added.

Harry has already set up his next interview with 18-year-old Lewis Clarke, who’s joining the Navy.

Michael added: “It’s in three parts. Lewis is doing 10 weeks training and is speaking to Harry first, after and then once he’s finished.

“Harry’s written all of the questions himself, from a kid’s point of view.”

His first video for Educational Life has already been posted.

Claire Turner, director, said: “We started our young reporters’ project to boost creativity in young people and we wanted to involve the younger generation.

“We posted on Facebook and Harry’s dad contacted us and we got in touch.

“We’re very lucky as he’s amazing, confident and passionate about becoming a vlogger.”

In his new role, Harry will he reporting on topical issues and reviewing attractions in Kent, while earning himself children’s university credits, which can help towards a university application after school.
