A prolific shoplifter who was recalled to prison for committing a string of offences went out thieving again just days after being re-released from jail.

Earlier this year, Lisa Willett was sentenced to 260 days for committing a series of shop thefts in Sittingbourne town centre which she committed in January.

However, she was released on licence in June after serving half her sentence, but recalled to prison for reoffending again.

On July 11, she appeared in court after being charged with several theft offences, and at the time, police applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) in a bid to stop her from thieving again because they said she “caused misery in the town”.

At the time, the 45-year-old was handed a two-year CBO after targeting the likes of Aldi, Morrisons, Poundland and Aldi in the town.

The order prohibits her from entering several businesses in the area, including smaller shops and supermarket chains and also bans her from any premises she’s previously been banned from and she must leave a shop if she’s asked to by staff.

At the time the order was issued, PC Jamie Spencer said: “Willett has caused misery in the town since 2023 and is one of the worst repeat offenders in the area so her criminality was causing a detrimental impact on businesses within the town, as well as local communities.”

However, after being recalled earlier this month, she was released again, but within days she was out offending again and appeared in the dock at Medway Magistrates’ Court on July 30 where she admitted two further shoplifting offences.

Magistrates were told, Willett, who used to live in Maidstone, but is now of Cavell Way, Sittingbourne, had been caught in the Forum Shopping Centre in Sittingbourne town with a black bag with stolen Savers goods on July 29.

While in the dock she also admitted another shoplifting offence from the Co-op in Upchurch which she committed in May.

Debbie Jones prosecuting said: “On May 20 she went into the Co-op in Upchurch with another female.

“She had a bag for life and went to the meat chiller section and put items in her bag and left without paying and it was all caught on CCTV.”

Ms Jones told magistrates the value of what she stole from the Co-op was not known, so she wasn’t asking for compensation as a result.

The prosecutor added: “Then on July 29 officers in Swale spotted her in the Forum Centre and went to speak to her over an unrelated matter (being recalled to prison as she had again breached some of her licence conditions), and they found she had a number of items in a black bag which had been stolen from Savers in the town and those items were valued at £40 but were recovered.

“She gave no comment in interview but pleads guilty today, she also has a lengthy list of previous convictions and has also had a suspended sentence activated previously.

“She’s now been recalled by the probation service.”

Lewis Holloway defending said his client’s offending wasn’t sophisticated.

He added: “It’s a sad state of affairs really, her first court appearance was in 2005 and then there was another in 2006, but then there was no offending until 2023.

“She had been out of trouble for a very long time but then she had a bad relationship which led to drug misuse, crack and heroin.

“This has led to the criminal record she now possesses, she’s been recalled and so I would think a short sentence could be deemed appropriate.”

A probation officer also confirmed Willett had been recalled for 28 days because she’d refused to have an alcohol abstinence tag fitted at her former address in Maidstone.

Magistrates jailed Willett for 30 days for each of the theft offences and said the sentences must run consecutively, so she was jailed for another 60 days.

She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154 and £85 court costs and that will be added to her other court fines account which magistrates heard she still owes some £2,700 to.

Willett was not charged with breaching her CBO.
