Half-term scarecrow trail in Lower Halstow near Sittingbourne
19:45, 27 October 2023
Scarecrows have once again taken over a Kent village.
Lower Halstow near Sittingbourne is home to the annual Scarecrow Trail this half-term, raising money for Lower Halstow Primary School.
The trail is now in its fourth year and has been growing in popularity, with people travelling ever growing distances to visit.
The theme this year is Heroes & Heroines, Fact or Fiction.
There is no cost to walk the trail but visitors are asked to make a small donation online or in person at the Three Tuns pub.
One of the scarecrows this year is the much-loved resident duck scarecrow, named Colin, who lives next door to the school.
Colin came into life for the scarecrow trail in 2021 and since then, to the delight of pupils, his owner has updated his outfit to celebrate holidays and important events such as the Coronation, Wimbledon and the World Cup.
This year, the event is being sponsored by Medway based Strive PE and Sport. A number of other companies and organisations are sponsoring individual scarecrows, including the Three Tuns, Lower Halstow Parish Council and Bespoke Balloon Studio.
Visit www.facebook.com/LowerHalstowScarecrows to find out more and to download a trail map.
You can also download an activity sheet to complete on the way around for £2. After you walk the trail, you can vote for your favourite scarecrow on the Facebook page.
The event runs until Sunday.
