CONTROVERSIAL plans to greatly expand Sittingbourne Community College go on public display there from September 16 to 19.

Schemes submitted by three teams of architects will be on show.

School spokesman Geoff Rutt said: "The displays will have considerable local interest and should be the catalyst for future development.

"There will be the opportunity for you to record your views on the schemes at the exhibition. Exact timings have still to be decided but it will be in the early evening."

These views will be considered when the schemes are assessed during the week starting September 22 prior to the appointment of one of the architects to take their proposals forward to an outline planning application later in the year.

Nearby residents have already voiced their fears over the scale of the development because they are worried about potential increased traffic. Some believe the project has already been approved but this is not the case.

The proposals may include more provision for cricket, football, hockey and athletics. New houses, extra nursery places, starter units for new companies in the creative arts, a community open space and a healthy living centre are also possible.
