A late Hicham Akhazzan penalty handed Sittingbourne an opening day win over Whyteleafe in Ryman League Division 1 South.
Sittingbourne won thanks to two excellent dead-ball kicks and the rashness of Whyteleafe’s Sean Bremner, who firstly gave away a free-kick just outside the area and then a penalty when he scythed down Akhazzan.
Bradley Spice curled the free-kick past keeper Robert O’Hara while Akhazzan powered in the penalty after Whyteleafe’s Daren Watson restored parity with a header.
Sittingbourne travel to Chipstead on Tuesday. Kick-off is at 7.30pm.
