Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott calls on old friends in a bid to outsmart Fleet Town
08:00, 25 February 2011
Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott has called on two former Welling team-mates as he plots Fleet Town’s downfall in Ryman League Division 1 South at Bourne Park on Saturday.
Ex-Wings goalkeeper Glen Knight is now in charge at North side Maldon and Tiptree, while defender Jack Haverson plays for the Essex club who won 2-0 in Hampshire on Tuesday in the Ryman League Championship Manager Cup.
Abbott, pictured, said: "They didn’t think Fleet defended very well, so I may go 4-4-2 at the start and perhaps switch to 4-3-3 later."
Abbott is unhappy that young midfielder Sam Collins has to serve a four-game ban after being controversially sent off in the 4-0 defeat at Whitehawk earlier this month.
He said: "I am gutted for the boy, because he didn’t do anything wrong and, with the game against Leatherhead called off, he has to wait even longer before he can play again."
