A search of the building, in Chalkwell Road, led to the discovery of a drugs farm, with more than 100 plants found in the loft. Inquiries remain ongoing.

Although the suspects were no longer at the scene, officers near the Stockbury roundabout spotted three vehicles believed to be involved.

They were pursued onto the M2 as far as the Dartford Tunnel where two of the vehicles were brought to a stop.

The occupants tried to make off but were detained. Both vehicles were later confirmed as stolen.

Another vehicle was stopped near Kidbrooke, south east London, and the driver arrested.

The six men, aged between 19 and 21 and from London, were arrested for offences including aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of drugs and possession of offensive weapons.

They all remain in custody as inquiries continue.
