Traffic is queueing for around one mile where the A249 joins the M2 from Sittingbourne and the Stockbury Roundabout.

A National Highways spokesman said: All lanes are now open on the westbound between J5 and J4 following the earlier collision. Delays of up to 45 minutes remain on both the M2 westbound and A249 southbound approaching J5.”

Things are being made worse due to the fact there is no exit at Junction 5 all month due to ongoing works.

Last month, a 16-year-old girl lost her life after a fatal crash near the Stockbury Roundabout.

Alisha Marie Ponter was a passenger when the car she was in overturned when it collided with a road barrier.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 5.56am to a collision involving three vehicles on the London-bound carriageway of M2 between junctions 5 and 4.

“Officers and paramedics attended the scene where one person was treated for injuries and the vehicles moved to the hard shoulder.”
