A young underweight dog rescued by a warden is thought to have been caught up in barbed wire.

The whippet-type lurcher, who has been named Oliver, was seen wandering on a Scout camp during the early hours.

The animal, which is now in the care of Swale council’s dog warden, Mel Herbert, was caught on CCTV at around 2am wandering through different properties in Bredgar near Sittingbourne.

A council spokesman said: “He is estimated to be between two to three years old.

“He wandered into the Bredgar Scout Camp and was caught by one of their volunteers.

“Oliver is underweight and was crawling alive with fleas, which he has since been treated for.

“We don’t know what caused the injuries, but they don’t seem to be burns or bites.

“It looks like he may have been caught up in something like barbed wire.”

The spokesman added the council is encouraging anyone to come forward with information about the owner – even if they wish to remain anonymous.

Mel Herbert added: “He's the second welfare case we've been alerted to in the last four days.

“We still don't know what's caused the injuries to his body or how recent they are, as none of the wounds are open or weeping.

“He was found already covered in purple spray, which is a minor antiseptic.

“He was running alive with fleas which he's since been treated for.”
