15:00, 04 October 2013
A couple of friends helped raise £1,050 for Macmillan Cancer Support when they took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Joining groups across the UK on Friday, September 27, were Laura Grigg and Sarah Fielder who organised a fundraiser at Upchurch village hall.
They also set up text donation number which has so far raised an additional £40.
Raffle prizes, including a photoshoot, make-up lesson and bridal hair-and-beauty session, were donated by Kent businesses.
Marks & Spencer in Hempstead Valley shopping centre donated coffee and sugar.
Mrs Grigg, 31, said: “The idea behind it just makes it so accessible. It’s an absolute genius way of raising money for a good cause.”
Also taking part were occupants at Woodstock Residential Home, Woodstock Road, Sittingbourne, and their families.
Together they raised £170 towards Macmillan and a further £83 which will go towards trips and items for residents.
- Donations can still be made to the Upchurch coffee morning by sending a text with the words COFFEE 5CC to 70550.
