Child killed by falling tree in woods at Bobbing, near Sittingbourne

A child has died and another been left seriously injured after they were struck by a falling tree in strong winds.
The tragedy occurred in woodland at Bobbing, near Sittingbourne .
Police say they were called to the scene near Parsonage Lane shortly after midday on Friday to reports the children had been injured.
A force spokesman said: "Officers attended alongside South East Coast Ambulance Service, the air ambulance and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
"One child was declared deceased at the scene and another child was airlifted to a London hospital with serious injuries.
"Kent Police is preparing a report for the coroner."
The surviving girl was airlifted to Kings College Hospital. Her condition is not yet known.
A dog walker, who regularly passes the scene but did not want to be named, said: "It sounds like such a tragedy.
"I come here for walks a fair bit and have never heard or seen anything like it.
"It sounds like such a freak accident."
Swale borough councillor for Bobbing, Roger Clark, said his deepest condolences went to the girls' families.
The incident occurred as a yellow weather warning was put in place by the Met Office, with winds of up to 60mph recorded.
