Traffic was stopped on the M2 after a crash involving several vehicles.

The road was temporarily blocked and witnesses reported 10 vehicles have pulled over, four of which were involved in the collision on the London-bound stretch between junction 5 for the A249 (Stockbury Roundabout) and junction 4 (Gillingham).

It is unclear how many people have been injured.

Two ambulances, one fire engine, three ambulance support vehicles, two police cars and two highways vehicles are at the scene and traffic has not moved for 15 minutes.

Police spokesman Sally Smith said: "Police were called to the London-bound carriageway at 9.07am.

"Four vehicles were reported to be involved and South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene."

South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman Rich Airey confirmed two patients are en route to Medway Maritime Hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be serious.

The road has now reopened, but motorists say it has taken them 55 minutes to get from the Bobbing turn-off to the Stockbury roundabout.

Earlier this morning 10 miles of queues built up after a motorcyclist was injured in a crash further down the route past where it joins the A2.
