A stretch of road between two busy roundabouts came to a standstill for hours after a vehicle caught fire.
Police had to close shut the A249 between the Key Street Roundabout and Stockbury Roundabout as a result of the blaze.
Crews were called to the scene at 4.07pm, shortly after police had a 999 call about it.
It left traffic from Maidstone heading towards the Stockbury roundabout backed up nearly all the way back to M20 junction 7 with delays of at least 40 minutes in the area.
Officials confirmed the road fully re-opened around 7.15pm.
