Car fire in Grovehurst Avenue, Kemsley, near Sittingbourne, being treated as suspicious

Bangs and explosions could be heard coming from a car as it went up in flames.

The fire service has confirmed the blaze, in Grovehurst Avenue, Kemsley, near Sittingbourne, is being treated as suspicious.

Crews were called to reports a car was alight just after 10pm on Wednesday (October 23).

One fire engine attended and firefighters used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

Video footage taken by witnesses shows the car surrounded by bright flames making it look like a ball of light in the distance when suddenly a small explosion is heard.

Thick smoke could also be seen billowing from the vehicle as it burnt.

Firefighters left the scene after an hour.

There were no reported injuries and the cause is being treated as suspicious.
